CRYSTAL X-010 – GRANULAR FLUX REDUCING Na – Ca
Crystal X-010 is a granulated flux suitable for the treatment of aluminium-magnesium alloys which do not tolerate the presence of Calcium and Sodium.
Aluminium-Magnesium alloys, such as the 5000 and 7000 series, can have a high calcium content which reduces their castability and structural homogeneity. Eutectic and hypereutectic Al-Si alloys can also contain these elements.
In eutectic alloys, Calcium can influence the effectiveness of modification treatments with sodium fluxes or with metallic sodium. Calcium can also negatively affect the absorption of gas in the liquid metal.
Crystal X-010 contains magnesium which reacts with calcium and sodium, both soluble in the liquid metal. The byproducts of the reaction are insoluble in the liquid metal and have low weight. These byprodycts tend to float to the surface and can be easily removed.
