In gravity and sand foundries, eutectic aluminium silicon alloys (Silicon 7-13%) should normally be treated with sodium fluxes to modify the silicon structure and improve mechanical characteristics. After treating the alloys with products such as Crystal 2007/M, Napal 700 or Nabox: it is important to use Flotab 5 to keep the desired amount of sodium in the alloy during the time that furnace will be emptied. It is important to verify the various parameters that could effect sodium modification in the metal: quantity and holding temperature of metal, initial dosage of modification product, ppm reached and ppm that should maintained for an estimated period of time until new alloy is charged into the furnace.

Flotab 5 is produced in 500 grams tablets, and should be added on dross free, clean metal surface to release its sodium content. Decomposition of tablet will occur during 45 – 60 minutes depending on metal temperature and surface cleanliness.

Warnings

The product is hygroscopic. Store in a dry storage and away from heat sources. Close the package after each use. If stored properly the product has a shelf life exceeding 12 months.
