NAEL 10 – Powdered Flux for Aluminium alloys

Nael 10 is a powdered flux suitable for treating Aluminium alloys disturbed by presence of Calcium and Sodium elements. High Magnesium Aluminium alloys, such as 5000 and 7000 series, might have a high content of Calcium which reduce castability and homogeneous alloy structure. Eutectic and hypereutectic Aluminium-Silicon alloys may also carry these impurities, due to the degree of Calcium content in Silicon metal. In Aluminium-Silicon eutectic alloys, Calcium, as an impurity, can affect the results of modification treatments with sodium fluxes or metallic sodium. It can also influence, in the negative way, gas absorption in the liquid metal. The elimination mechanism of Nael 10 is based on the reaction of Magnesium versus calcium and sodium, both soluble in molten aluminium. The products of this reaction are insoluble in the molten metal and have a lower specific gravity. By-products released from reaction tend to float on the surface of liquid metal and can be drossed off using Crystal 2027/2/B, a sodium free granulated flux.
